Hypnotherapy. How it works
Hypnosis is a state of mind where we can help people to make changes subconsciously. Working with the part of the mind that runs the body, habits and behaviours behind the scenes.
Most of our beliefs, habits and subsequent behaviours will be formed early on in our lives. Which means a behaviour or belief that may have been appropriate at that time is now inappropriate for the adult.
Fears and phobias or bad habits and behaviours picked up along the way can impede on how we experience or enjoy life. Hypnotherapy is a way of accessing the subconscious mind and updating a belief or changing the unwanted problem
Achieving the state of hypnosis.
You will be taken into an altered state of mind using relaxation techniques known as inductions.
Can everybody be hypnotised?
Most people can be hypnotised, it is suggested that around twenty percent of people can’t be hypnotised. Though in theory everyone can be hypnotised, with the exception of those with a low IQ, inability to focus or short attention span.
At the other end of the scale is a somnambulist. They go into hypnosis very quickly and are very susceptible to suggestion. The preferred subject for a stage hypnotist. Suggestions are short lived as they do not fit with our own personality or self-belief.
How many sessions will I need?
That will depend on what we are working with and how quickly change takes place. Some issues can be worked with in one or two sessions. We rarely need to go beyond 5 sessions. The last session or two is for re enforcing the changes and building confidence. We never ask you to have more sessions than you need.
How we work
After talking about we you want to achieve and explaining what will be involved, On deciding to go ahead we will take into hypnosis. Rather than just using suggestions, we work with your mind to find the answers to resolve the problem. Because your mind has provided the answer, the change is more natural like learning or understanding the new information and is therefore more personal and so long lasting.
How successful is it?
Hypnotherapy has a very high success rate, though as with any therapeutic intervention there are some who don’t bennefit. One important factor is feeling comfortable with the therapist. Another key part is you, your input and commitment to the process as we are matching subconscious with conscious intention.
